When the lakes in Datong, China were icebound, the local people chose strong horses to range on Haixin Shan Island. Foals were born in the spring. The babies grew up so strong that they had the ability to run miles in the daytime. Datong horses are bred in Datong. That and Hequ are filled with fine horses.
