The Beberbeck horse breed originated
in southwestern Germany, where the stud of that name was founded
just about two hundred years ago. The breed was introduced by crossing
local Beberbeck mares with Arabian stallions, and after that the
resulting mares were crossed with English Thoroughbreds. The next
cross was with the local Beberbeck stallions. This was done to retain
type and substance. The result was a heavy Thoroughbred type, which
tends to be deep through the girth. They are predominantly bay or
chestnut and stand at 16 hh or taller. Very few Beberbeck horses
exist today, because the breed has been mostly amalgamated in the
German and Eastern European modern warmblood sports horses.
