The local breed name for the Aegidienberg is the Aegidienberger. Not
much is known about this breed, although it is acknowledged by the breed society Rheinisches Pferdestammbuch.
It is thought to be a composite of the Paso and the Iceland Pony, and they have an established herdbook.
There are very few of these ponies today, and their population numbers
are decreasing rapidly. They are a special breed, and one of their special abilities is that they
are very tolerant to heat. This breed is critically endangered, and it has been calculated that
the number of females is down to eleven.
