The native pony of Tibet is known as the Nanfan. It is also known as the Hequ. It originated from the Mongolian pony and the Chinese pony, and is also related to the Bhutia and Spiti ponies of the Far East. This strong, robust animal is very versatile and is a willing worker that is quite easy to handle. The most common color among Nanfan ponies is yellow dun, but most any color can occur. Their average size is 12.1 hh.
