- Welara -

The Welara is a relatively new breed that was developed in the US of A and established in 1981. The Welara hails from Southern California where the first person to breed the Welara pony was Lady Wentworth. The breed was first introduced by using the stallion Skowronek on some Welsh mares imported from the Coed Coch stud farm in North Wales. These are highly attractive ponies and perform excellently, making superb children's ponies. They combine the best features of both the Arabian and the Welsh pony, and exhibit enormous presence and carriage. They move extremely well for a pony breed. The Welara has a good temperament, being calm while also lively and energetic when required. They are also kind and very intelligent ponies.

In appearance, the Welara has a fine, attractive head set onto a muscular and gently arched neck, a short and compact back with good powerful hindquarters, and nicely sloping shoulders. They have very strong, tough legs with hard hooves. Any color is accepted in this breed except for the appaloosa patterns. The Welara stands between 11.2 hh and 14.2 hh.
